Nepal hosted events dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of the poet I. S. Turgenev
On November 12, 2018, the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Kathmandu organized an event dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of the Russian realist writer, poet, essayist, playwright and translator I. S. Turgenev. The co-organizers of this event were the Nepal-Russian Literary Society, headed by its chairman, Dr. Jangab Chauhan.
In her welcoming speech, the director of the RCSC, Yulia Androsova, spoke about the great role of I. S. Turgenev, not only in Russian, but also in world literature. The President of the Nepal-Russia Literary Society, Chauhan, also spoke about the outstanding literary works of I.S. Turgenev. Then a documentary about the life of Turgenev was shown and also translated into Nepali.
In the course of literary recitation that were held as part of this event, participants and organizers of the event recited poems by I. S. Turgenev in the prose “Russian Language” and “Dog” in Nepali and Russian languages.
In addition, guests and participants were shown the film-play “Turgenev Today”, which was translated into Nepali beforehand, and a photo exhibition about the life and work of I. S. Turgenev and a book exhibition in Russian, English and Nepali were displayed .
In the visitor’s book of the RCSC, the guests left their feedback on the interesting and informative program as a high level of organization and holding of this event.
